Adolfo brings 25 years of public accounting and tax experience serving individuals, high-net-worth families and closely held businesses.
His work has included complex returns and transactions, technical tax research and financial reporting. He is recognized for disciplined research, creative problem-solving and working papers that support accurate, defensible decisions. His prior public-accounting experience spans several California firms, and he has taught college-level accounting classes.
Adolfo earned a Master of Accountancy from Golden Gate University and a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Sonoma State University. He directs the firm’s day-to-day operations, client relationships and future development.

A.J. Houston began his career in taxation and financial planning in 1989 and founded A.J. Houston Financial Services in Monterey. He built the firm around professional guidance, local relationships and solutions shaped to each client.
The legacy
Following A.J. Houston’s retirement, Adolfo Herrera purchased the firm in 2023. A.J.’s professional guidance and the opportunity he created remain an important part of the firm’s foundation.
